the curious incident of the dog in the night-time

It should be the first post in this blog that I write in English.  I just recalled the time when I wrote book reports in the secondary school.

I bought the book, "the curious incident of the dog in the night-time" many years ago.  I completed around thirty pages and stopped for reading Japanese fictions.  When I want to resume the reading, I found that I forgot most of the story and therefore decided to start over.

The book is narrated by a boy who has got some behavioral difficulties which we usually understood as Autism.

One night, the boy found the neighbor's dog was being killed and decided to find out the "murderer".

The basic framework is a detective story while the readers would understand what are the ones with Autism thinking about.   People may find them a little bit troublesome but it is just because the ones with Autism are thinking in a quite different way as us.

They think precisely.  They have very good memory and they are good observants.

Different does not mean weird.  I believe this may be one of the message from the writer.

Here are some quotes extracted from the book that I would like to share.  Not sure if it would raise your interest to it.  Enjoy ^.^

P.12
I think prime numbers are like life.  They are very logical but you could never work out the rules, even if you spent all your time thinking about them.

P.46-47
People say that you always have to tell the truth.  But they do not mean this because you are not allowed to tell old people that they are old and you are not allowed to tell people if they smell funny or if a grown-up has made a fart.

P.61-62
Maths wasn't like life because in life there are no straight forward answers at the end.

P.65
Intuition is what people use in life to make decisions.  But logic can help you work out the right answer.

P.73
The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes ~Sherlock Holmes

P.75
Sometimes we are sad but we don't really know we are sad

P.90
Some people want to be stupid and they do not want to know the truth

P.100
Lots of things are mysteries.  But this doesn't mean there isn't an answer to them

P.102
Sometimes things are so complicated that it is impossible to predict what they are going to do next, but they are only obeying really simple rules

P.126-127
If you have difficult things in your life it is nice to think they are what is called negligible.
